PRINCIPLE
The Alcomate AL9000 AccuCell Fuel Cell Digital Professional alcohol breath analyzer is a U.S. DOT approved precision alcohol detection instrument which employs an advanced integrated fuel cell reactor sensor to determine equivalent blood alcohol content within a range of 0.000% to 0.400% in increments of .005% from a measured breath sample with a sensor accuracy rate of +/- 0.005% BAC. Results are displayed digitally. Easy and convenient to use, this professional portable model is recommended for both personal and law enforcement field use when high performance and accuracy of results are indicated. Additionally the AlcoScan AL9000 AccuCell is ideally suited for zero tolerance alcohol testing programs where even the smallest amount of system alcohol can be detected. The AccuCell model comes in a hard field case and includes 5 specially designed non-disposable one-way mouthpieces that prevent subject manipulation of breath sampling by "blow back" and insuring proper breath sampling. As with all electronic measuring devices, accurate results are significantly impacted by failure to follow proper testing protocol and use instructions included with the unit. Specifications and features of the Alcomate AccuCell Digital Pro model follows:
FUEL CELL TECHNOLOGY Fuel cell technology is one of the most advanced methods for determining levels of intoxication. The fuel cell breathalyzer is considered the "gold standard" for portable breathalyzer testing. This is the type of device preferred by law enforcement and other professionals that require maximum accuracy. Most lower cost breathalyzers use semiconductor-based designs for detecting and measuring alcohol in a subject’s breath. While adequate for most personal applications, this method can be less accurate in higher volume institutional testing and can be subject to sensor contamination and false positives. A fuel cell measures alcohol content by catalyzing a chemical reaction with platinum metal. In this reaction, the ethanol present in the subject's breath is oxidized to acetic acid at the anode and the overall reaction produces acetic acid and water as well as creating an electric current. This current is measured and used to calculate the level of blood alcohol. Fuel Cell breathalyzers are more specific for ethyl alcohol and less prone to false readings from substances such as ketones that are similar in chemical structure to alcohol. Therefore, they are accurate and very stable. Advances in manufacturing have led to a dramatic decrease in the price of fuel cell technology. Consumers now have access to the same high quality technology as law enforcement professionals for personal alcohol testing. Important note: As with all fuel cell breathalyzers, the AccuCell does NOT use replaceable sensor modules; it must be physically returned at least once per year for calibration service, at an approximate cost of $50.00.
Each Alcomate AL9000 AccuCell Professional Digital Breath Analyzer comes retail boxed with a storage/transport case, five reusable, non-disposable one-way mouthpieces, custom pouch, two AA 1.5 volt batteries and complete operating manual. For sanitary reasons, it is recommended that each mouthpiece be used only by the same person or be washed in hot water or sterilized between uses. Note: The special mouthpiece must be used for each test or damage could occur to the fuel cell sensor. The OPTIONAL PC interface kit comes with MAX20 software, proprietary USB connect cable and installation instructions.
