OVERVIEW AND FEATURES The use of the ear canal for ear temperature measurement is the most efficient way to measure body temperature. The ear canal is readily accessible and, compared to other sites, has fewer variables which influence the measurement. The device requires little or no cooperation from the patient, and an accurate temperature measurement is obtained in just one second. The Welch Allyn Thermoscan PRO 4000 provides an active user feedback light that signals that the probe has been positioned in a stable way throughout the measurement, avoiding inaccurate measurements due to handling errors. Its ergonomic design makes it easy to temperatures on patients of all ages. The PRO 4000 incorporates thermopile technology. The thermopile technology operates by taking eight temperature measurements in one second and displays the highest temperature measurement on the LCD. Audible beep tones indicate when the temperature is complete. The thermopile technology also eliminates the need for a shutter, so the PRO 4000 has fewer moving parts. This lowers the probability of product malfunction or breakage thus making this thermometer a dependable product in a clinical environment. The PRO 4000 is the only ear thermometer with a preheated probe tip that minimizes the cool down effect experienced when taking repeat temperatures, thereby improving accuracy and repeatability not found in less expensive models. It also has a probe cover detection system that ensures that a new probe cover is always used. This helps to improve accuracy by ensuring precise infrared heat transfer. The automatic probe cover eject button allows you to quickly and easily remove a used probe cover, reducing the risk of cross-contamination. The probe design will not allow the probe to touch the eardrum in even the smallest infant. Clinical trials held on the The Welch Allyn Thermoscan PRO 4000 indicate a 98% accuracy rate with unremarkable impact on specificity rates caused by conditions of otitis media (middle ear infection) or the presence of cerumen or tympanostomy tubes. The probe tip has been designed to prevent damage to the eardrum, regardless of the age of the patient. While the speculum tip will not enter into the ear canal of newborns, clinical studies have shown that with careful technique an accurate temperature can be obtained on even this age group. The ExacTemp feedback system gives user positive feedback in the form of a solid green light when placement of the probe is stable and the thermometer is ready to provide a good temperature reading. This helps eliminate the concern over whether or not the probe had good positioning in the ear canal and improves confidence in the reading. The thermometer will not allow a reading to register unless the probe positioning was stable. If positioning is unstable, it will give a POS position error message on the screen. The Welch Allyn Thermoscan PRO 4000 is available only from authorized medical distributors and is not available at retail. The complete sales unit consists of the thermometer unit, mountable storage holder, 20 disposable probe covers, 2 X 1.5V Batteries, multilingual instruction book, and warranty information.
